Keep Your "Awe" Focused On Jesus

After a mind-boggling adventure of miracles and ministry, the disciples returned to Jesus and exclaimed: "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." (Luke 10:17)

Imagine their excitement, participating in everyday miracles, seeing lives and communities transformed before their very eyes. Their spiritual authority in Christ exceeded any earthly authority in their midst.

Jesus had a calm, wise response that was as much for them as it is for us...

"I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy, nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven (Luke 10:18-20).

In so many words Jesus says to them and us:

Yes, as you walk with Me and learn from Me, you'll get to do some amazing things in your lifetime. Be grateful when you see a breakthrough when I use you. But keep your "awe" focused on Me. Don't marvel at the great things you get to do, marvel at the great things I've already done. I won the victory. I saved you! Marvel instead that your name is written in the Book of Life! Never allow the wonder of things I do through you to upstage the miracle I've done in you.

As you follow and trust 'Me', you'll find that you are never too small for big things and never too big for small things.

Humbly, boldly serve Me in the high and low places of life. But marvel every day that I saved you, that your sin is blotted out completely, that every act prompted by your faith is written down for future reward. I've redeemed you in every sense of the word. You're no longer an orphan, you're an heir! Live from that reality.

With Love,
