Humbly Ask God To Protect His Likeness In You

Have you ever noticed how some successful people turn territorial? They are threatened by the up and comers, they grow insecure around people more anointed and gifted than they are.

Just when did their focus shift from Christ and His Kingdom to themselves and their territorial footing? I wonder how many moral failures could be avoided if we were more sensitive to the motivation behind our efforts.

Don't you just love it when God-appointed successful people remain humble and gracious and fully dependent on Christ year after year, in spite of their very real and continual success?

How grateful we are for those that treat us like they have all the time in the world for us. They point us constantly to Jesus. And they don't take themselves too seriously.

Encountering the stench of self-importance makes me want to run to my secret place of prayer and cry out, "Lord, I want my whole life to be a fragrant offering to You! I do not want to trust in myself or believe in myself. I want to trust in You, believe in You! Yet how can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults! Keep back your servant from presumptuous sins! Don't let them control me! Then I'll be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. (See Psalm 19:11-13).

It's wise to allow our encounters with prideful people to serve as a cautionary tale to teach us a different way to live. We can be sad for them, we can pray for them, and we can humbly ask God to protect His likeness in us.

With Love,
